And we’re talking shortcuts on your PC, before we go any further – not ways of getting round doing essential, unliked tasks or the best way to avoid local traffic. That said, the principles are the same… Keyboard shortcut keys really can speed up your life and help you to get more done.

Try spreading the word with your customers and colleagues too when you see them doing something the long way round – watch the look on their face when they realise that they’ve spent the last 10 years always doing it the slow way. It’s always rewarding to hear the words “A-ha” from a colleague or a customer … one of the stated aims of The 8.45 Club.

So can we really cover something useful in just 7 minutes … can you have a cheat sheet or two and will you really be able to put any of this into practice, because you’re not an IT geek… well, simply, the answer is YES, YES and YES – this really will help…

Most people know CTRL-C and CTRL-V for copy and paste…  We’re going to run through 10 ‘must-haves, followed by a session on Internet Explorer.

Follow up

Your quick launch buttons are displayed next to your start menu for easy access. By default you have Show Desktop, Internet Explorer icons and whatever other applications you installed. Now you obviously know that if you single click on any of these icons the appropriate app launches. Common knowledge right?

BUT did you know that if you press the ‘Windows Key‘ and the corresponding number of the shortcut it will auto-launch? So if you have the show desktop icon in the first position pressing Win-1 will show your desktop. And if Internet Explorer is in the second position…  Win-2 will do the trick!(VISTA ONLY)
